Terms of Service
Last updated: October 20, 2026
These terms govern the receipt-sorting service provided by taxready ("we", "us"), a sole proprietor doing business as taxready. By signing the consent form, sending us receipts, or paying for an order, you ("you", the "client") agree to these terms and to the privacy policy, which is part of them. If you do not agree, do not use the service. Your typed-name signature on the consent form and your continued use of the service are your electronic agreement to these terms.
1. What the service is
- You send us photos of business receipts and, optionally, income exports and mileage. We read each receipt, record the merchant, date and amount, and sort it into a Schedule C expense category.
- You receive a ledger (spreadsheet), a one-page Schedule C category summary, and a CSV file formatted for QuickBooks.
- Sorting is done by software with human review of flagged items. Every category is a suggestion for you and your tax preparer to confirm.
2. What the service is not
- We do not prepare, sign or file tax returns, and we are not a tax return preparer, CPA, enrolled agent or attorney.
- We do not give tax, legal, accounting or financial advice. Whether an expense is deductible, and on which line, is a decision for you and your preparer.
- We do not audit your records, verify that a receipt is genuine, or check that a purchase was for business use.
- We are not a records-retention service. You must keep your own original receipts; the IRS requires you to retain the records behind your return.
3. Eligibility and your responsibilities
- You must be at least 18, operate a business, and have the right to share the documents you send us. You confirm that the receipts are yours or that you are authorised to share them.
- Before we process anything you must sign the consent to disclosure of tax return information required by US law (IRC §7216). Without it we cannot start. The consent lasts one year from signature; if you are on a monthly plan we will ask you to sign a new one before it expires, and we stop processing new receipts if it lapses.
- You are responsible for sending complete and legible receipts, for telling us which purchases were personal, and for checking the ledger before giving it to your preparer.
- Do not send us Social Security Numbers, EINs, bank logins, or full card or account numbers. If a receipt shows one, cover it before photographing.
4. Orders, pricing and payment
- Prices are listed on the home page at the time you order. Orders above the listed tiers are quoted in writing before work starts; a quote is binding on us for 14 days.
- Payment is made through the marketplace or checkout link we agree on. Where a marketplace (such as Upwork or Fiverr) is used, its payment and dispute terms also apply and may take precedence over sections 4 to 6 to the extent they conflict.
- The free trial covers up to 20 receipts for a new client and creates no payment obligation. It does not renew or convert into a paid plan on its own.
- Monthly plans renew automatically each month at the price shown when you signed up, until you cancel. You can cancel at any time the same way you signed up or by emailing us; cancellation takes effect at the end of the paid month, and we confirm it in writing. We give at least 30 days' notice by email before any price change.
5. Turnaround
We aim to deliver within 48 hours after the last receipt for an order arrives. Turnaround is a target, not a guarantee; large orders, unreadable photos, or questions we need you to answer can extend it. We will tell you if an order will be late.
6. Corrections and refunds
- If you find an error in a delivered ledger, tell us within 30 days and we will correct it at no charge.
- If we cannot deliver an order, or an error cannot be corrected, you receive a full refund of what you paid for that order.
- Because the work is custom and delivered digitally, there are no other refunds after delivery, except where the law of your state gives you a right we cannot exclude.
- Prepaid amounts for work we have not started are refunded in full if either side ends the order.
7. Your data
How we collect, store, share and delete your information is described in the privacy policy. In short: receipt images are read by an AI model (Anthropic) under the §7216 consent you sign, stored encrypted, reviewed by a human bookkeeper outside the United States, kept for the tax year plus one, and deleted on request. You may withdraw consent at any time; we then stop processing new receipts.
8. Ownership
Your receipts and the data in them remain yours. The ledger, summary and CSV we deliver are yours to use with any preparer or software. We keep the rights to our own software, templates and methods; nothing here transfers them to you.
9. Disclaimer and limitation of liability
- The service is provided "as is" and "as available". To the extent permitted by law we disclaim all warranties, including that every receipt will be read correctly or that any category will be accepted by a tax authority.
- To the fullest extent permitted by law, our total liability for all claims arising from an order is limited to the amount you paid us for that order, and neither side is liable to the other for indirect, incidental or consequential losses, including additional tax, penalties or interest assessed on your return.
- These limits do not apply to liability for fraud, gross negligence or wilful misconduct, or to any liability that cannot be limited by law. Some states do not allow certain limitations, so parts of this section may not apply to you.
10. Ending the service
You may stop using the service at any time. We may decline or stop an order if receipts are not legible, if the consent form has not been signed, if payment is not made, or if the documents appear not to belong to you. Section 6 says what is refunded. Sections 7 to 9 and 12 continue to apply after an order ends.
11. Changes
We may update these terms. The date above changes when we do, and material changes are sent to the email on your order at least 30 days before they take effect. Changes do not apply to an order already in progress unless you agree. Continuing to send receipts after the effective date means you accept the updated terms.
12. Governing law and disputes
These terms are governed by the laws of the United States and of the state in which you reside, without regard to conflict-of-law rules. Before starting any formal proceeding, both sides agree to try to resolve the dispute by email within 30 days. Nothing in these terms stops you from bringing a claim in small-claims court or from contacting a consumer protection agency.
13. General
- These terms, the privacy policy and the consent form are the whole agreement between us about the service and replace any earlier discussion.
- If any part of these terms is found unenforceable, the rest still applies.
- You may not transfer your order to someone else without our written agreement; we may transfer the agreement to a successor business that takes on the same obligations, and we will tell you if we do.
- Neither side is responsible for delays caused by events outside its reasonable control, such as outages at the providers named in the privacy policy, as long as it tells the other side and resumes as soon as it can.
- We communicate with you by email at the address on your order; notices sent there count as delivered.
